Elderberries are most commonly used as a supplement to treat cold and flu symptoms

The elderberry we often say refers to the fruit of the black elderberry. Elderberry dried or juice is used to treat influenza, infections, headaches, dental pain, heart pain, and neuralgia as well as laxatives and diuretics.

Additionally, elderberries can be cooked and used to make juices, jams, chutneys, pies, and elderberry wine.

Benefits of Elderberry Extract:

1. Rich in nutrients

Elderberry is a low-calorie food rich in antioxidants, and elderberry extract is rich in vitamins, dietary fiber, phenolic acids, flavonoids, and anthocyanins.

2. May Improve Cold and Flu Symptoms

One study found that taking a 175 mg elderberry extract lozenge for two days significantly improved flu symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle aches, and nasal congestion, just 24 hours later.

3. Antioxidant

Elderberry flowers, fruits, and leaves are an excellent source of antioxidants. For example, anthocyanins found in elderberries have 3.5 times the antioxidant power of vitamin E.
