You'll be surprised how easy it is to make your own vitamin D mask at home
Often referred to as the "sunshine vitamin," vitamin D plays an integral role in skin protection and rejuvenation. As the active form of calcitriol, vitamin D helps skin cells grow, repair and metabolize. It strengthens the skin's immune system and helps destroy free radicals, which can lead to premature aging. Vitamin D supplements have also been found to improve conditions such as acne and psoriasis, although it is not known how.
Our bodies produce vitamin D through sunlight, but too much sunlight can accelerate skin aging. Over time, sunlight can damage this delicate organ, leading to wrinkles, sunburn and an increased risk of skin cancer.
During times of limited sun exposure, such as in winter, it is important to supplement vitamin D levels with diet and supplements to still have health benefits. But topical use of vitamin D on the skin can also be effective in maintaining healthy skin and improving certain skin conditions.
This vitamin D mask formula will leave your skin feeling soft and clean. Egg yolks and yogurt are rich in vitamin D and have an anti-inflammatory effect that can help reduce redness, while oats act as a gentle exfoliant.
An egg yolk
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons grated oats
