Is organic acai berry powder really high in nutrition, or is it just a gimmick?

Acai berries are small, reddish-purple drupes that are picked from tall, slender palm trees in the Amazon basin of South America. The berry is very perishable but delivers significant nutritional value when eaten fresh.

The flavor of acai berry is often described as a combination of wild berries and chocolate. Acai berries are available in major supermarkets and health food stores around the world, usually in juice or tea rather than fresh form, and that's because shipping them off Amazon while retaining their nutritional profile is a very difficult task.

Organic Acai Berry Powder contains a variety of properties, including higher antioxidant activity similar to cranberries, but far more potent than blueberries and strawberries. Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) is reported to measure the antioxidant capacity of acai berry powder, and acai berry is reported to have the highest ORAC value among fruits and vegetables, containing 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes.

Acai berry powder is very low in sugar, yet very rich in calcium, fiber, and vitamin A. They also contain anthocyanin compounds like resveratrol and cyanide and ferulic acid, which not only give fruits and vegetables their vibrant color but also work synergistically with flavonoids to protect the body from free radical damage.

More research is needed on whether acai berry has more benefits. All in all, acai berries, like nearly every other plant-based food, contain many beneficial compounds like powerful antioxidants, vitamin A, and anthocyanins, which have been clinically proven to have health benefits.
